History

Back in 1979, Don Casino opened at the Don Hotel on Cavenagh Street in Darwin. At the time it was the first casino in Darwin – and only the second in Australia.

The license was transferred in 1983 to the Mindil Beach Casino; shortly thereafter, the Northern Territory Government acquired it, along with the Alice Springs Casino. A joint venture between Greate Bay Casino Corp and Aspinall Holdings was established to operate the two casinos.

Mindil Beach Casino was renamed in 1985 as the Diamond Beach Hotel and Casino, which remained the name until 1995, when MGM Grand acquired the property and renamed it the MGM Grand Darwin. In 2004, SkyCity Group acquired ownership of the Darwin Casino and Hotel from MGM Grand and rebranded the property SKYCITY Darwin.

In early April, 2019, SKYCITY Darwin, joined the Delaware North portfolio of unique gaming and resort properties. The new Mindil Beach Casino Resort celebrates the iconic west-facing beach on the Arafura Sea – a beautiful location attracting locals and visitors from around the world.

Today, with hospitality by Delaware North, creating special experiences one guest at a time is the mission. As stewards of the property, Delaware North operates responsibly and protects natural and cultural resources while supporting sustainability and the environment.

Mindil Beach Casino Resort is proud to be an important part of the Darwin community. Delaware North is honoured to showcase Mindil Beach Casino Resort and this magnificent region.
